Frequently Asked Questions
1
Do your therapists specialize in pelvic health?
Yes, our therapists are specially trained as pelvic floor therapists, and primarily treat pelvic floor conditions. We can treat other things as well, as we practice holistic, whole-body care, but our practice specializes in pelvic health.
2
Who do you treat?
We treat all people with a pelvis, and treat from young adults through menopause. From pregnant moms struggling with back pain, to women with severe pelvic pain conditions limiting their lives, to athletes limiting their activities due to bladder leakage, we are there to find the root cause of the problem and partner alongside our clients to build a comprehensive solution.
3
Do I need a physician referral to see you?
No! If you do not have a referral, we are still able to see you for your initial evaluation! We are always happy to partner with your other healthcare providers in your care. If you have a physician referral, please let us know.
The state of Michigan has direct-access for physical therapy, meaning that you are able to seek out physical therapy without a referral by a physician.

What can I expect on my first visit?
After scheduling your first appointment, you will have the opportunity to complete initial intake paperwork. This will include a health and history questionnaire which will give you an opportunity to share your story with us. This allows us to tailor your initial evaluation to address the problems that are important to you.
When you arrive for your visit, you will be taken to a private room where we will discuss in detail your history, current difficulties, and goals for treatment.
After this, we perform a comprehensive examination, which includes a movement and postural analysis, and also more specific examination techniques based on your individual case.
From here, we recommend a treatment program and make a plan together.

Can I still come in if I don't have any symptoms?
We LOVE when people come in preventatively! There are so many things we can address, educate on, and assist with to prevent issues down the road. For pregnancy, see our pregnancy program. Perhaps you know your mom or grandmother had a prolapse and you want to prevent this, or you're coming into perimenopause and want to know how to support your body. We are here for it all!
6
I've already had pelvic floor therapy - can I still come see you?
Of course! Many of our clients have seen other providers, and we welcome people to come see how we treat and the holistic lens we use here at Trailhead. All therapists are different, and we know at Trailhead we use a whole-body approach with longer sessions that are one-on-one which allows us to really get to the root cause of your concerns. We can build off of your knowledge you already have, and continue you toward your goals.
7
Will I be in a big gym with other people?
Absolutely not. We have private treatment rooms that are designed to be comfortable - real linens, table warmers, light music, and soft lighting. We only treat people one-on-one with our specialists - no sitting on a machine and squeezing for the whole session or being in a gym with a lot of people. This is a private topic with a calming, approachable environment.
8
How long will this take?
This really varies so much for each person! Your provider will discuss this in detail with you at your initial evaluation, once they have a chance to discuss your symptoms and evaluate you. Most of our clients can expect to see positive changes within the first three visits.
